Can Your New Cleaning Company Start Tomorrow?

September 30, 2024

Toilet paper is one of those little things that you don’t notice—until it’s gone.

Think about it: if there’s no toilet paper in your facility, your team members will eventually find a job where they can, you know, use the bathroom.

Now, this may not be your fault. Perhaps you recently ended your contract with your cleaning company, giving them the required 30-day notice. But what happens if they leave right away?

Suddenly, there’s no one restocking toilet paper, emptying the trash, or cleaning the floors. Your building is becoming a mess, employees are frustrated, and productivity is dropping.

Even though you didn’t cause this problem, it’s now your responsibility to fix it. So, you call your new cleaning company and ask if they can start right away. But is that possible?

Well, maybe.

Let’s look at what happens behind the scenes when a commercial cleaning company, like ours, is hired to clean a new facility. Here are the three main things we must do before we can officially begin working at your location.

What Happens Before We Start?

1. Hiring the Right Team

Unlike a staffing agency, we don’t have a group of cleaners ready to go at the drop of a hat. When we take on a new client, we first need to evaluate the specific needs of the facility. This involves determining how many full-time or part-time employees are necessary, what shifts they’ll need to work, and whether any specialized cleaning skills are required. Only after considering these factors can we start hiring the right people for the job.

2. Developing a Custom Work Plan

Every building is different. Whether it’s an office, a warehouse, or a retail space, each requires a unique approach to cleaning. That’s why we create a detailed work plan for every client. This plan outlines what needs to be cleaned, in what order, and by whom. We also include checklists and specific procedures to ensure everything is done right. This isn’t something we can whip up overnight—it takes time and a few site visits to create a plan that fits your facility’s specific needs.

3. Training Our Team

Cleaning may seem straightforward, but doing it well takes training. Each member of our cleaning team needs to know how to use equipment correctly, how to safely handle chemicals, and how to follow the procedures in the work plan. We also train them on the safest and most efficient ways to mop, dust, and handle various surfaces. Proper training takes time, but it ensures that the job will be done properly and safely.

So, When Can We Start?

Considering the steps above, it usually takes us 3-4 weeks to get a new team ready, trained, and fully equipped to begin cleaning your facility.

But what about the toilet paper shortage? You need a solution now. Here are a few options:

  • Ask your current cleaning company to honor their contract and continue services until the agreed-upon end date.
  • See if the new company has a temporary “floater” team who can handle the basics for now—restocking toilet paper, emptying trash cans, and keeping the restrooms clean.
  • Check with your staffing agency to see if they can supply a short-term cleaner to cover your immediate needs.

While we hope you’ll never have to worry about toilet paper again, if you do find yourself in this situation, now you know what to expect.
